Accessible websites and UK law in plain English

· 1 min read · Jordan

An accessible website works for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, or larger text.

The rules

  • Equality Act 2010: UK service providers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and that includes websites.
  • European Accessibility Act: since June 2025, if you sell to consumers in the EU your site should meet WCAG 2.1 AA.

Quick wins

  1. Write descriptive link text, not “click here”.
  2. Give every image meaningful alt text.
  3. Make sure text has enough contrast.
  4. Check that every control works with a keyboard.

Our sites include an easy-read mode and read-aloud button. Try them in the header.
